Student Chaplaincy
Student chaplaincy is a growing field that involves young people, in their schools, offering a range of opportunities to explore the Christian faith; to encourage creativity and curiosity; and to support students to grow and develop their spiritual faith. It seeks to give ‘agency’ to young people and help them play an active role in the spiritual, cultural and moral development of school life.
Our first cohort of student chaplains were appointed in December 2025 and fall into one of three distinct types. These
- Worship Chaplains. These will focus predominantly on the nature of spiritual development at The Bishop of Llandaff, including Eucharistic and non-Eucharistic expressions of worship;
- Community Chaplains. These work play a leading role with the student congress and leaders at school to help identify the charitable causes that the school will support throughout the academic year, both nationally/internationally and local priorities; and
- Buddy Chaplains. These will provide support for younger students, offering guidance and advice on aspects of school life that may present as a challenge for some.
The student chaplaincy team will work alongside Mr Davies, chaplain, other key staff at school and the local community to fulfil a range of roles. This includes helping to overcome issues that are important to the students at The Bishop of Llandaff; partner with local organisations to make a positive difference in our community; and to work with the Diocese of Llandaff to raise the voice of young people.
The student chaplains have developed their own motto, "Learning with faith, serving with love" as the cornerstone of their work. In addition, their own mission statement
Student Chaplaincy Mission Statement
Our mission is to help nurture our school community, which is rooted in faith, love, and respect. We are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment where every student feels valued, supported, and free from judgment, regardless of their beliefs. Through prayer, worship, acts of kindness, and inclusive outreach, we aim to inspire generosity and compassion, reflecting the teachings of Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Guided by these principles, we strive to refresh and uplift others, fostering a culture of acceptance and service that strengthens our shared journey of learning and growth in God’s Kingdom.
