Seren Network

Students who achieve 6 or more A* grades at GCSE are eligible to join the Seren Academy. The Seren Academy is a fully funded programme to support the aspirations and ambitions of students, pushing boundaries of their academic development and engagement.

Across their time in sixth form, Seren students will receive opportunities to apply for and attend Oxbridge sessions and to attend subject-specific masterclasses to wider their super-curricular development. They will be allocated to a personal tutor who will help curate and refine applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

Seren students will develop their critical thinking skills, and complete reflective journals in conjunction with the Seren activities in which they have engaged. They will also be assigned a mentor, a former Seren student now studying at university, for advice, support and guidance as students begin to think about their post-18 pathway.

Students who engage with the activities and opportunities provided by the Seren Academy benefit significantly. Their participation in events such as Physics Olympiad or essay writing competitions ensures students are always improving their academic development, demonstrating their God given talents on the national, or even international stage.

Opportunities through the Seren Academy assist students in refining their future plans for university, confirming course choices and providing helpful advice throughout the admissions process. The events enable students to experience ‘real life’ scenarios, helping them develop their wider skill-set beyond academia, too.

“Attending a history masterclass with the University of Oxford opened my eyes to different historical elements broader than the curriculum I study for A Level. For example, material culture and its historical significance. This enabled me to deepen my super-curricular understanding, but also honed in on potential undergraduate and graduate based opportunities – I’d definitely like to study a Masters’ degree now!” (Sam, Year 13)
