Enrichment Programme

As well as helping our students achieve outstanding academic outcomes, we aim to help them become well-rounded, highly creative individuals who will appeal to future universities and employers. To this end, all students take part in our innovative enrichment programme: an exciting collection of activities that take place each Wednesday afternoon.

We currently offer over twenty such opportunities to help broaden our students’ skills and appeal to a host of interests. These range from activities that are subject based – such as re-sitting mathematics at GCSE (for those who may not have achieved at least a C grade), Business Mentoring or the Law Mock Bar Trails – to First Aid and Personal Fitness.  Included in this programme is the opportunity to play in our highly successful Upper School rugby and hockey teams (offered in collaboration with The Cathedral School). Many students use Wednesday afternoons to prepare for their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award working with our highly skilled in-house instructor. Students are encouraged to propose and lead their own societies, with the current cohort taking the lead on Medic Mentoring, Feminist Society and School Radio. Students interested in science are able to select from a variety of activities including STEM based projects and visits to Cardiff University laboratories. Music, art, drama and creative writing are available, as are a host of language options from Mandarin to Spanish. For those students who want to use Wednesday afternoons to simply get ahead with written work or develop a healthy mind-set, there is supervised Silent Study or a new course in Mindfulness.

There really is something to capture the interest and passion of every student and whatever they choose, our enrichment programme provides students with an unparalleled opportunity to develop skills well beyond academic study. We believe this programme gives our students that 'competitive edge' in a world where they will soon find themselves competing for a limited number of university places or apprenticeships. The programme is available to all students and affords access to exciting opportunities which help develop self-confidence and widen their personal appeal to universities and future employers.

On completion of their studies with us, not only will students have been challenged intellectually by first-class teaching but they will also have developed socially and emotionally through our imaginative and unique enrichment activities.
