A year of hard work in the art department has come together and the results are stunning. Throughout the year pupils have been working hard on different artistic pieces right through the school. The work of the school from GCSEs, BTECs and A/AS level are on display has been brought together in this gallery, along with work from year 8 and the Marion Centre. Pieces in the art gallery convey a range of emotions and themes through a wide variety of techniques. Talents in many areas are shown from origami right through to video-making. Several pieces of work will not be leaving bishop, however, as they have been purchased to join the school’s collection.

Max, Bell & Casper Save the World by Anna Surridge Anna Surridge, a 2009 Climate Change Champion has produced a children’s book to help make the messages around climate change simpler and easier to understand. The book, entitled ‘Max, Bell and Casper Save the World’ follows three superheroes – Max the dog, Bell the cat and Casper the chicken. Anna’s book features bright colours and innovative hand drawn cartoons. It uses the three characters to describe the small actions that everyone can take to tackle climate change and reduce their carbon footprint. Anna was the driving force behind organising for the bilingual book to be sent to every primary school in Cardiff and will be doing a reading session at the Eisteddfod in Llangollen on one of the children's days - 6th July 2010. MARION CENTRE - UPDATE
I am delighted that the Minister has confirmed his approval for the Marion Centre developments. The formal acceptance includes approval from the Minister for an all weather Astroturf and the improvements to the main rugby playing fields; which I am particularly pleased about as I felt that there needed to be some significant improvements to the grounds of the school if we were to going to allow the Marion Centre to take up some space on what is already a fairly compact site. So in this first step we have been able to gain what I believe is a significant improvement to our school facilities and I can assure you that the PE department are delighted. The next step is to apply for planning permission and that process will be underway very shortly. C G Hollowood Headteacher |
GOOD GRIEF SCULPTURE EXHIBITION We’re presently hosting an exhibition of sculptures on the theme of Grief and Loss housed in the main hall. Pupils in year 9 will be exploring the meaning behind the heads in lessons with the RE and Art teachers over the coming week. The lessons will explore the grief cycle and aim to provide pupils with the emotional vocabulary to deal with loss and separation in their life at present or in the future. Each sculpture deals with an aspect of the grief process: DENIAL, DISBELIEF, QUESTIONING, ANGER, DEPRESSION, ACCEPTANCE, HEALING, PEACE. If you would like to know more about the heads then please follow this link: http://www.westhillendowment.org/goodgrief.html. If any parents (or church groups) would like the visit the exhibition then please email me
