WJEC Student of the Year 2009 - Jonathan Nash Congratulations to Jonathan Nash, who has been awarded WJEC 2009 Student of the Year. Jonathan was a Year 13 pupil at the Bishop of Llandaff CiW High School last year. Jonathan won the award having gained five A grades in WJEC subjects at A Level. Jonathan chose to sit Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Further Mathematics "partly because I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to study at university, and partly because I honestly could not choose which subject to drop." Jonathan was presented with a certificate and prize of £250 by Derec Stockley, Director of Examinations at a special event held at WJEC. He also received a personal letter from Gareth Pierce, WJEC’s Chief Executive congratulating him on his tremendous results, "an outstanding achievement, and evidence of the hard work that you and your teachers put into preparing for the examinations."
Jonathan commented "I appreciate that the WJEC courses managed to keep the appeal of the subjects I chose to take. The modules were carefully designed to include a range of topics and were not tedious. The work was challenging, but not boring, and I found a lot of opportunities, throughout all courses, to research non-specification topics, in my spare time." He is currently studying Medicine at Imperial College, London and is finding the course and university life "very gripping and exciting." He hopes to become a doctor after finishing his medical degree, possibly in the field of surgery. WJEC is celebrating the achievements of its A level and Welsh Baccalaureate candidates, by awarding cash prizes and certificates to the highest achievers. |
